2020 NATO Applied Vehicle Technology Panel Excellence Award

The Next-Generation NATO Reference Mobility Model Development and Demonstration Team co-chaired by Dr. Paramsothy Jayakumar (US Army CCDC Ground Vehicle Systems Center) and Dr. Michael Hoenlinger (KMW GmbH, Germany) has been awarded the 2020 NATO Applied Vehicle Technology Panel Excellence Award. The work performed by this team has led directly to an ARC project in this area with Prof. Thomas Oommen.

The citation reads:

The AVT-248/CDT-308 Team has significantly increased the understanding within NATO nations of factors impacting on land platform mobility and how to model them. The increased scientific understanding of validated modeling techniques will enable a range of tools, from rapid assessment tools through to detailed design models, to be implemented. As a result, NATO procurement organizations will be able to procure safe and cost effective land platforms that have state of the art mobility levels optimized across all types of use from high speed road running to traversing challenging off road terrain. The user community will be provided with tools that will ensure that the most suitable platforms are fielded and operational commanders are able to maximize freedom of movement. In recognition of the outstanding work and significant scientific contribution, we hereby present the 2020 NATO AVT Panel Excellence Award to the AVT-248/CDT-308 Team on “Next-Generation NATO Reference Mobility Model Development and Demonstration”.

Normally, the honorees would be recognized at the 46th AVT Panel Business Meeting in Båstad, Sweden in October. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the event has been canceled.
