Dr. Panos Papalambros elected to the National Academy of Engineering
Dr. Panos Papalambros was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE)—one of the highest distinctions in the profession. The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) recognition: “For contributions to complex systems optimization and leadership in advancing transformative engineering design research and education.”
Dr. Papalambros is the Founding Director of the Automotive Research Center, established in 1994. He is the James B. Angell Distinguished University Professor Emeritus and Donald C. Graham Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature” and to “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”
