ARC Proposal Process
Eligibility: Faculty must be affiliated with an ARC partner school.
Contact: ARC Program Manager, William Lim (choonhun@umich.edu)

A Call for White Papers is typically sent in July to the Associate Deans of Research for broad distribution to partner schools. Interested faculty can request to be added to our mailing list to receive the Call for White Papers directly.
The Call for White Papers details solicited research topics that address U.S. Army GVSC research needs along with format and submission information. An information session is conducted to discuss the Call for White papers.
It is highly recommended that interested faculty connect with GVSC researchers to understand the research needs as outlined in the Call for White Papers. ARC staff and GVSC thrust area leaders can facilitate the connection. ARC seminars, and the annual program review in May, are venues for such networking as well.
White Papers are typically due in early August. (please note that dates cited in this outline may change year-to-year)
White Papers are reviewed by GVSC experts who make recommendations to the ARC Executive Committee. Successful White Papers address topics in the Call for White Papers and clearly articulate novel ideas or approaches to basic research questions that address the U.S. Army GVSC research needs.
The outcome of the White Paper process is typically sent to Principal Investigators in late August. Please contact the ARC program manager for proposal and budget templates.
Full proposals are due typically by the end of September.
Proposals are reviewed by GVSC experts whose reviews and recommendations are considered by the ARC Executive Committee. The evaluation criteria focuses on GVSC and ARC relevance, scientific merit and impact.
The outcome of the proposal selection process is sent typically in early December, when more details may be requested for contracting.
The duration of an ARC project ranges from one to three years, renewed yearly. Project continuation requests and project reports are due at the end of each September. (Continuation requests do not require White Papers.)
Activities expected of ARC project members include presenting at research seminars, participating in the annual program review (with posters, technical presentations, case studies and external review board interactions), collaborating with other ARC investigators to solve GVSC problems by synergistically applying project research outcomes.
