Pramod Khargonekar

Distinguished Professor, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Pramod Khargonekar is currently a Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. He was Chair of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from 1997 to 2001, and also held the position of Claude E. Shannon Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Michigan. From 2001 to 2009, he was Dean of Engineering and Eckis Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida till 2016. He served briefly as Deputy Director of Technology at ARPA-E in 2012-13. He served as Assistant Director at the National Science Foundation as head of the Directorate of Engineering from 2013 to 2016. From 2016 to 2025, he was Vice Chancellor for Research at UCI. He has been recognized as a Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher. He has received the IEEE Control Systems Award, the IEEE Control Systems Society Bode Lecture Prize, the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award, the American Automatic Control Council’s Donald Eckman Award, the IEEE W. R. G. Baker Prize Award, and many best paper awards. A Fellow of IEEE, IFAC, and AAAS, he has published extensively in many areas of control systems theory and applications, machine learning, advanced manufacturing, neural engineering, and renewable energy.
