We seek to develop a high fidelity vehicle thermal management system model for Future Combat System Manned Ground Vehicles (FCS MGVs) with Series Hybrid Electric (SHE) Powertrain.

The Vehicle Thermal Management System Simulation (VTMSS) in MATLAB/Simulink environment can be used as a study tool to assess design concepts and architectures of the thermal management system in MGV FCS SHEVs with additional components and multiple cooling circuits. Illustrative case studies will be performed of vehicle thermal management for performance improvement and parasitic loss reduction. Using the model, guidelines can be produced for optimum thermal management system design, component sizing and packaging. VTMSS will be integrated with the SHEV version of Vehicle-Engine SIMulation (VESIM) to evaluate the impact of the thermal management system design on the fuel economy and performance of the vehicle.
