Technology Exchange

ARC's challenge is to bridge the gap between the "mission pull" of the Army and the "technology push" of universities and industry. To facilitate consistency of goals, all ARC's projects use the Research Quadruplet Unit ("Quad") concept shown below.

The Quad requires that four constituencies be involved (ideally taking an active role, but at least being an informed mentor/advisor) in each ARC research project. The participating Universities have been committed to the use of this model. In addition, ARC's Board of Advisors includes significant senior representation from industry and government.

Technology transfer and exchange of needs and findings is critical to the successful operation of the ARC. For an effective and sustained technology exchange and deployment activities with RDECOM and industry, the Center is structured so that these activities are designed into its organization and infrastructure. Technology transfer is accomplished in three ways:

  • Education of graduate students (government and industry employees).
  • On site interaction with government/industry engineers and scientists.
  • Linking research projects with commercial automotive activities and government procurement processes.
